The 106th Annual Dinner was held on 20th November 2010 at the Taunton Rugby Club. 90 members and guest were greeted by the President and Chairman, David Gill, who gave a summary of the year's events. Members stood in tribute to the memory of six members known to have died during the year.

Rev John Tyler, former School and College chaplain, said grace and then all present sat down to an excellent three-course dinner. Peter Gibbs, our vice chairman, proposed the Loyal Toast, followed by Timothy Trood introducing the evening's speaker, Martin "Spud" Middleton (1969 > 1976)

Martin left the School in 1976 and joined Westlands of Yeovil as a sponsored undergraduate. He is currently Head of Manufacturing Services. His illustrated speech was entitled "A weekend in the life of a Helicopter Flight Test Team" and centred upon his team's work in developing the Merlin helicopter and especially their work when prototype PP4 crashed over the Blackdown Hills in 1995. No lives were lost and it turned out to be the fault of the French, in the end !

Dr Peter Avery, College Principal, gave an update on the college's recent successes and challenges.

Neil Trood and John Moore were kept very busy as we progressed with the raffle, and the proceeds of that (together with other events) led to the highlight of the evening, the presentation of a cheque for £1,200 to one of our own former pupils, Eric Saffin, on behalf of SURE (Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment) Eric sincerely thanked the OHA for our generosity and gave us an update on the work that SURE had done so far with and for The Beacon Centre at Musgrove, and gave us an insight into the equipment still required to maintain the Beacon Centre as a world class cancer care facility.

As ever, the socialising was greatly enjoyed, with many school friends meeting for the first time in donkey's years…!
